Taiwan offers cruise lines incentives to call

In a move to capture more cruise business Taiwan is offering incentives of between $10-25 per passenger per call for marketing activities on international ships calling in Taiwanese ports up to the end of 2015.

Currently Taiwan attracts around 70 cruise ships a year at four main ports of Kaohsiung, Taichung, Hualien and Keelung (for Taipei). Azamara, Costa, Oceania, Princess, Regent Seven Seas, RCI, Celebrity and Crystal are among regular callers.
Taiwan is home to Northeast Asia's tallest mountain, Yu Mountain (Yushan) and has eight national parks. Taipei boasts one of the largest museums of Chinese artefacts, whilst Taipei 101, with its 91st floor outside viewing platform, is one of the world's tallest buildings.
Princess Cruises' Diamond Princess which called in Keelung last month with 2,500 passengers on board received a $25 per head subsidy which will be 'wired to the company 60 days after the port of call,' said a spokesman from Taiwan Tourism Bureau's New York office.
Any cruise line can claim the marketing subsidy with smaller ships under 500 passengers earning $10 per person and with the larger ships of 2,000 passengers and over, able to claim $25 a passenger per call, he added.
The incentive is available to any international cruise line planning to call in Taiwan for the next three and half years.
